lyrics

On the Ubiquity of Fish
When she fell from the skies with her eyes painted black
I was poison and vile as a serpent’s attack
But she fell in my Garden, and I fell for her charms
And we both fell from Grace into each other’s arms

She spoke of the Tree and the Tree spoke no lies
Like the spokes of a wheel it reached out on all sides
She from my side by my side in that shade
Together we planted our seed unafraid

We woke to the morning with rain on our backs
But no rain could wash clean all the blood from our tracks
The track-marks so deep, and our Treason so real
The Floodwater’s rising all over the fields

The rains are a-fallin’ here on the farm
Where Strange is a quark and Death is a charm
We pray, “Eternal rest will you grant them, O Lord”
If rest comes from death we should start selling swords

The Floodwater’s rising and I don’t see no Ark
It’s hard to see much when you’re kept in the Dark
I strike up a match and you close your eyes
We smile as we pass: Not a cloud in the sky

You hung up your bow in the sky aimed at whom?
The Son that you promised you sent to the tomb
The Son rose again, but first He was killed
Oh the Floodwater’s rising all over the fields

Well this song was written just outside Paradise
Where the Angels stood guard with their fiery knives
And my Love there abjured for my Love was my Pride
While I stood there so lonesome, you pierced at my side

Yes, you pierced at my side and you spit in my face
And you whipped my broad back then you bound me with lace
Oh, you hammered me down like a god at his end
There you laid down my Love like the life of a friend

Now the Angels are singing once more on these shores
And the boat-builder begs, “Won't you all come aboard?”
And he walks on the water and lays down the keel
And the Floodwater’s rising all over the fields

Well some speak of Truth in these dishonest days
And some sing of Greed with hearts golden and brave
And the words of a Child are a powerful Seed
But the Tree of a Man is the Fruit in his leaves

When you fell from the skies with your eyes painted black
I was poison and vile as a serpent’s attack
But you fell in my Garden and I fell for your charms
And we fell into the Grace that was each other’s arms

Now the Floodwater’s risen all over the fields
From the mud of the Valley to the drought of the Hills
Now the fields are all fertile for you and for me
It takes Sunshine and Deep Caves for the Water to recede.
